BERLIN – The scholastic wrestling program from Bristol Eastern took part of the C.J. McCormack Memorial Tournament this past Saturday.

The Lancers battled up and down the card in Berlin, earning a credible sixth place finish overall.

Eastern notched 117.5 points as a team, finishing behind several top programs from around the state.

New Milford, always a top contender in the postseason, took the championship that day, scoring 227.5 points.

Homestanding Berlin (203.5 points) was the runner up, followed by Avon (third, 197.5), Foran (fourth, 146.5) and the co-op from Brookfield/Shepaug (fifth, 130).

The Kingstreeters had one grappler in the championship round as Owen Broyles ended up in the finals at 175 pounds.

Broyles was the runner-up as he dropped a tough 6-1 decision to New Milford’s Adam Oberc – helping the Green Wave seize the tournament championship that afternoon.

In third place bouts, the Lancers had two grapplers in action and both ended winning their matches.

Eastern’s Yussuf Bah (106 pounds) and Luke Viens (132) both won via pinfall, seizing third place finishes.
