Bristol American Legion Baseball Notebook: Bristol talents to play in showcase at CCSU on Tuesday

By Michael Letendre

Mike Roalf and Ryan Maglio could be having a very busy day playing baseball around Central Connecticut on Tuesday.

The Bristol Eastern standouts will take part of the 2022 Connecticut American Legion Baseball College Prospect Showcase.

Central Connecticut State University in New Britain is hosting the event and the players from the Bristol American Legion squad will play for the Nation Team that morning.

The showcase, from Balf-Savin Field at CCSU, is a great way for scholastic players to get a little attention as several collegiate coaches and scouts will be on hand for the event.

Practice for the contest will commence at 9 p.m. and approximately one hour later, the game will begin.

Roalf and Maglio helped lead the Bristol Eastern baseball team to the Class L Tournament this past spring and have been tremendous for Post 2’s Junior Legion program this year, currently sitting at 9-9.

Roalf won two games for the Kingstreeters, carrying an ERA of 3.78 while Maglio went 3-4 with 37 strikeouts and a 4.20 ERA.

Maglio nearly batted .260 for Eastern with 15 hits and seven RBI.

The duo might even be pressed into duty on Tuesday evening as the Juniors have a showdown at RCP or could be in the line-up for the Seniors in Zone 1 battle action West Hartford.

The Rankings are in

The most recent Connecticut Senior American Legion Baseball rankings are in and there’s a familiar team at the top of this week’s list.

West Hartford (14-0 Zone 1 record) was ranked in first place for the first time this year, moving up one spot from the July 3 poll.

Middletown (16-1) did not budge from second place this week and holds a two-game lead at the top of the Zone 3, Southern Division standings.

No. 3 Willimantic (20-3) was the first team in the poll to tally 20 wins in zone play this season while No. 4 Waterford (19-3) moved up from sixth.

West Haven (14-3) fell from fourth to fifth and the biggest dropper – RCP – fell from first to sixth and simply doesn’t have any answers in games against Middletown this season.

Stamford (17-6) dropped from third to seventh place, Ellington (14-5) moved up two spots to eighth while the final two positions belonged to new programs this week.

Hamden (ninth) and Westport (tenth) entered the final week of the regular season at 12-6, cracking Connecticut’s Top-10.

  • Non-members will be able to access five (5) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will also be able to access five (5) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have no limits.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
