Violet Quintin, 92

Violet Quintin, 92, formerly of Bristol for 65 years, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 14. For the past one and a half years, she and her husband, Gerard J. A. lived with their daughter Linda and son-in-law Bob in Old Saybrook.

Violet grew up in Biddeford, Maine. She moved to Connecticut after marrying the love of her life, Gerard J. A. Quintin, to whom she had been married to for 72 years before his passing on Aug. 27. They are reunited now in heaven along with their son Jerry, Jr.

Violet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, all while working a full-time job for much of her life. Prior to retiring, her most recent job was at Smith Gates in Farmington, where she was employed for many years.

She loved shopping as a social event. Many Saturdays were spent either going to the mall and out for lunch with her daughter Linda or getting up early and frequenting tag sales where she would find and collect beautiful dishware, among other treasures. Violet had a love for jigsaw puzzles and would sit and work on them daily. Another daily ritual was walking on the Bristol Eastern High School track. She was a devout Catholic who attended weekly mass at St. Matthew Church.

More recently, Violet’s great grandchildren brought her the most joy. She would light up whenever she would see them. She had a way with children and was very present while playing and interacting with them.

Violet is survived by her daughter Linda Carpenter and husband Robert of Old Saybrook; daughter-in-law Patricia Quintin of New Jersey; grandchildren Anne Quintin and fiancée Christopher Andrews of New Jersey, Lauren Carpenter-Martinez and husband Garrett of Madison, Michael and fiancée Elizabeth Schumacher of Old Saybrook; great-grandchildren Ellie and Dylan; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Gerard J.A. Quintin, her son, Gerard J.A. Quintin, Jr., and her sister Pauline LaBelle.

Calling hours will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave. Bristol on Tuesday, Sept. 19, starting at 9:30 a.m. until a procession that will leave for a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave. Bristol. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either St. Jude Children’s Hospital, www.stjude.org or Boys Town, www.boystown.org.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
