NEW BRITAIN – Last Tuesday, CIAC Class L Girls Track & Field Championships commenced from Willow Brook Park in New Britain and the program from Bristol Central made some very good gains.

The Rams nabbed 14th place with 15.5 points and had six athletes make top-6 performances.

In the 400 meters, Salvatrice Bosco took fourth place with a time of 1:00.04, a personal best, and earned a slot in the upcoming State Open event – also from Willow Brook Park.

Natalia Popielarz also established a new best time for herself in the mile showdown.

She scooped in a sixth place time of 5:23.03, an excellent finish.

In the high jump, Kylee Barnes, a promising freshman, ended up clearing four feet, 10 inches for sixth place.

And in the shot put, Krystal Rodriguez will also be going to the State Open as she made a fourth place toss of 30 feet, 5.25 inches.

Also for Central, the girls 4×400 relay team of Christine Attle, Sophia Stark, Bosco, and Popielarz finished in 10th place, seizing a new personal record of 4:17.01.

And speaking of Stark, the freshman had her best time ever in the 800, finishing in 18th place (2:31.74).

Finally, the 4×800 relay combination of Popielarz, Stark, Bella Crandall and Bosco placed eighth overall with a season best of 10:15.40 – helping the squad score a point with that stellar finish.

Windsor ended up winning the event with 84 points while Conard was the runner-up with 74.33.

Simsbury took third place (66) while New Milford 57 and Wilton each tied for fourth (57).
