Bristol Central girls lacrosse wins two straight matches as state tournament time looms

By Michael Letendre

After suffering two tough setbacks, the Bristol Central girls lacrosse team etched up two consecutive wins this week, spinning both Wolcott and Lewis Mills – improving to 8-3-1 overall.

Those wins saw the Rams outscore the competition 21-4 as the locals continue to improve their playoff positioning with every victory.

On Monday, Central smashed Wolcott 10-1 in a non-conference battle as Rachel Wygant scooped up four goals to lead the offensive charge.

Maddie Secor added two goals while the combination of Kaylynn LaPointe, Brooke Watson, Sydney Rodriguez, and Abby Lowe all tallied a score over the winning endeavor.

Keeper Alyah Rodriguez Warren was tremendous in the net, making 12 saves to get Central back to the pay window.

And then on Wednesday, it was more of the same as Central flipped Lewis Mills by an 11-3 final in a CCC South confrontation.

Abby Duval and Secor capped the scoring with three goals apiece while Wygant and Rodriguez each notched two.

Lowe also tallied a goal to lead the offensive onslaught.

The program is looking to continue its winning ways, closing out the regular season with all its remaining games coming from Bristol – starting with Wethersfield on Friday at 4:30 p.m. from the turf field at BCHS.

Next Tuesday, Edwin O. Smith comes to town (4:30 p.m.) and then the following Friday, on May 20, the Rams battle Bristol Eastern to complete the regular season in city series play.

Match time is 6:30 p.m. for that ultra-competitive bout.
