HRA opens a childcare facility on Lake Avenue

The grand opening of the Human Resources Agency (HRA) Lake Avenue Early Learning Center, a childcare facility located at 254 Lake Ave, is set for Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m.

The event will feature a Green Carpet Runway Parade of Head Start students, ribbon cutting and tour of the newly renovated and expanded facility, according to a release from HRA.

Among the speakers will be HRA’s executive director Dr. Marlo Repone, state representative Mary Fortier (D-79) and Stacia Chase, a parent of three Lake Avenue students.

The early learning center was funded with a $1.3 million federal grant, and the facility increases Head Start slots by 18, the release says. It is the second HRA outreach in Bristol. HRA has offices on South Street. New offices with additional classrooms are under construction adjacent to the Lake Avenue childcare center.

Early Head Start programs provide essential services to income-eligible infants and toddlers at no cost to their families.

The Lake Avenue building has a total of four classrooms, with a capacity for serving up to 52 children: an Early Head Start Infant room that can accommodate eight children; an Early Head Start Toddler room – this room is fully enrolled with eight toddlers; a community room; a Head Start classroom – this classroom is fully enrolled with 17 children; and a second Head Start – this classroom can accommodate 19 slots.

The facility features a nature-based design that incorporates tones of green throughout, to create a tranquil and peaceful environment and promote mental well-being and concentration.

The building also features security enhancements, such as tinted windows with security film, exterior and interior security cameras, and secure access doors, ensuring children’s and staff’s safety.

HRA of New Britain has for its mission, according to its website, improving quality of life by helping people achieve their economic and social potential. It serves communities in the greater New Britain area.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
