MERIDEN – The Bristol Eastern boys basketball team rolled out a 68-40 victory over Maloney on Friday night and, in the process, they moved to 8-2 overall, qualifying for state tournament play.

Lukas Sward led all scorers with 24 points while Jordan Chisholm added 14 for the Lancers. Chisholm knocked down four threes in the first quarter as the Lancers raced out to a big lead.

Eastern charged out to a 14-0 lead and was never threatened the rest of the way.

The Lancers held the athletic Spartans to only one shot while connecting on layups and high-percentage hoops on the other end to eventually build a 30-point lead.

“Whenever we play defense like that, we’re going to be able to run out and get easy opportunities,” Eastern coach Bunty Ray said. “That’s a good athletic team. I think us being able to lock them up in the halfcourt and then run out, it lengthens the court on how they have to defend us.”

Eastern led 22-6 through one period and went into halftime ahead 34-20.

The Lancers incased their lead to 54-26 through three quarters and eventually cruised to the victory in the end.

Eastern is back in action on Monday at Berlin at 6:45 p.m.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
