Eastern volleyball loses to Southington as brutal schedule takes a toll

Volleyball

For the second consecutive night, Bristol Eastern faced a top-5 ranked state power on Thursday, and the Lancers gave it a great effort, but could not pull off the upset against Southington. Eastern went point for point in the first set, as neither team could pull away from the other. In the end, Southington escaped one set point and then served out two points in a row to capture a 26-24 victory.

After the first set, the Blue Knights were in control and had little trouble winning sets two and three.

The Set scores:

Set 1: 24-26
Set 2: 16-25
Set 3: 17-25

Southington was led Cami Wessels with 18 kills and Emma Pfanzelt with 7 aces and 7 digs.

Lauren Bender paced Eastern with 10 kills and 9 digs. Adrianna Reay kicked in with 7 kills, 8 digs, and a block. Alyssa Valentine had an ace, a kill, 15 assists, and 3 digs for the Lancers.

BE’s record is now 10-6, and they travel across town on Monday to face the Rams of Bristol Central.

Southington’s record improves to 13-2.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access eight (8) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access eight (8) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
