Spouses of Vietnam era veterans to be honored May 13 in program at Bristol Public Library

The spouses of Vietnam-ear veterans will be honored at a special program on Saturday, May 13, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Bristol Public Library. The program will include a performance by students from a local performing arts studio and refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

Spouses will be recognized with commemorative certificates, and spouses and family members will receive Department of Defense pins and buttons. Upon arrival, each spouse will be welcomed with a flower.

Spouses are being asked to register in advance by calling the library at 850-584-7787, ext. 3. Registration will be taken only up to 1 p.m. on the day of the event.

The Bristol Public Library 50th Vietnam Commemorative Partner for Department of Defense Vietnam Event created its own two-signature commemorative certificate for the program, since the DOD does not issue one for this honor, according to a release by Neal Supranovich, who handles announcements for the local American Legion post. Partner organizations are permitted to create these certificates, in cooperation with the DOD.

The Bristol certificate will be signed by hand by the library partner and Bristol’s mayor, Jeffrey Caggiano, who is expected to be on hand, according to the release, as well as council members, who are also expected to at the event to present the certificates.

Stacy Perrone-Petta and her Voice Performing Arts Studio-Student Performers will be on hand to sing the National Anthem and later in the program lead a Patriotic Medley of sounds. The program will close with “God Bless the USA.”

Perone-Petta has for over 25 years, across seven countries and many states, entertained American troops and veterans.

Friends of the Library will be offering refreshments.  Other volunteers include members of the Daughters of American Revolutionary War and the Korean Veterans Association.

Later in the day on May 13, the American Legion, Post 2, will be hosting a meatloaf dinner at the post from 5 to 8 p.m. Proceeds help support local American Legion programs.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
