Bristol Eastern Wrestling: Lancers pick up big win over CCC South rival Middletown on Wednesday

By Michael Letendre

MIDDLETOWN – The Bristol Eastern wrestling program continued its winning ways on Wednesday night, battling tough Middletown in a CCC South challenge on the road.

The Lancers were able to top the Blue Dragons by 39 points as the Kingstreeters earned a big 60-21 win to keep pace with the CCC South leaders.

Eastern (8-1 overall, 2-0 CCC South) is undefeated in league play while Middletown fell to 3-6 and is winless in CCC South action (0-2).

Since Glastonbury (40-30) defeated Eastern back on December 13, the Lancers have been on the money ever since.

This time against the Blue Dragons, Eastern picked up several pinfall victories as the squad dominated in the heavier weight classes.

From 175 pound division up to heavyweight (285), the Lancers scooped up four pins – going a perfect 4-for-4.

Owen Broyles (175) ended up pinning Middletown’s Taverus Jefferson in forty-eight seconds while teammate Aidyn Davies (190) needed a little more time to defeat Nicholas Voelkl.

Davies pinned Voelkl in 1:38 while feisty Rio Fernandez (215) earned a pinfall victory against Derek Hamlin in seventy-two seconds.

And at heavyweight, Eastern’s Nuon Sovannara earned a pinfall win over Ajai Stackhouse in fifty-two seconds, dominating the bout.

Back down the card at 106 pounds, Eastern’s Yussuf Bah needed 2:49 to pin Middletown’s Joshua Ramos while Liam Corbin (113) fell on the road to Middletown Isaiah McDaniel in fifty-six seconds.

Eastern earned a couple forfeit victories as Andrew Brown (120) and Juan Florentino (126) each scooped up six points.

Going back to the grind, Eastern’s Luke Viens (132) pinned Efe Tepebas in forty-nine seconds while teammate Gabriel White (138) ended up pinning Middletown’s Gabe Colon in 2:32.

And at 144 pounds, the Lancers’ Adoni Fernandez nearly went the distance against Dwayne Lucien-Yopp before picking up the pin in 5:02.

Also in action that evening for the Lancers were Rocco Barbino (150), Jonathon Sibley (157) and Gianluca Morello (165).

Barbino never gave in before falling via an 11-6 decision while Sibley and Morello both lost off pinfall defeats.
