City Hall East reopens after air quality testing over the weekend and Monday

City Hall East, located at the former Webster Bank on the corner of Main Street and Riverside Avenue, reopens for normal business today after air quality tests over the weekend and Monday detected elevated levels of mold spores in the Mayor’s Office and downstairs bathrooms, according to a letter from the mayor to employees.

The Mayor’s Office and the downstairs bathrooms are expected to be closed off for further remediation. In addition, the break room will be closed, as it is being used as a staging area to address the problem. Employees are being asked to refrain from using each of the spaces.

The mold was found and reported on Friday. Tests were conducted over the weekend and Monday. While City Hall is being renovated, city departments and the Mayor’s Office are being housed in two locations–City Hall East on the corner of Main Street and Riverside Avenue, and City Hall West, at the Police Department offices on North Main Street.

COVID updates for the past 7 days

Bristol has experienced a rise in cases from 40 to 53 in the last week, and the positivity rate has risen from 6.9 percent to 7.4 percent, however, the city remains in the red category with over 15 cases per 100,000 people.

The CDC recommends that people at high risk for severe illness, talk to their healthcare provider about whether to need to wear a mask and take other precautions. In addition, the CDC reminds people to take the following measures:

In Hartford County the community level is low.

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines
  • Get tested if you have symptoms
  • People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.
  • People who are immunocompromised, can learn more about how to protect themselves here.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access five (5) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access five (5) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have no limits.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
