On the wrestling front this weekend, the Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern wrestling programs had a busy Saturday, battling several non-conference teams from New Fairfield high school.

The Rams went a sterling 4-1 over the matches, falling to just CCC power Simsbury by a 69-12 final.

Central was able to top Bethel (54-21), Nonnewaug (57-24), Masuk (58-18) and home-standing New Fairfield (48-30) in the consolation round of the New Fairfield Duals – a 10-team dual tournament.

Simsbury is ranked fourth in the most recent Connecticut Online Wrestling poll and the program won the event behind a 5-0 showing, defeating Haddam-Killingworth for the title (49-22).

But a couple Central grapplers were able to go undefeated on the day at New Fairfield.

Will Hamilton and Aiden Lamarre both went 5-0 while Umar Malick and Gabe Buden were each 4-1 for the Rams over a great day of action.

Eastern did well at event, picking up four wins and one loss to match the Rams.

The Lancers toppled Jonathan Law (68-18), New Fairfield (54-30), and Harding (60-12) in Pool A play.

Eastern lost to Haddam-Killingworth, 52-15, to fall into the consolation bracket.

The Lancers defeated consolation round opponent Masuk by a 60-18 final while Central downed New Fairfield, 48-30.

Don’t forget this Wednesday, Central tangles with Eastern at 6 p.m. from the Thomas M. Monahan Gymnasium in the annual crosstown confrontation.
