David R. Archibald, 84

David R. Archibald, 84, of Bristol, beloved husband of Lynne (Stacey) Archibald, died on Sunday, Aug. 14, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain. Dave was born in Rochester, N.Y., on April 8, 1938, and was one of three children of the late Alexander Archibald and La Vera (Smith) Van Vessem and stepson of the late James Van Vessem.

He was raised in Rochester, N.Y. where he attended Monroe High School.  He enlisted to serve in the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Wisconsin (BB-64) before his honorable discharge. He enjoyed a career as an industrial machine tool salesman before retiring. A Bristol resident since 1982, he enjoyed boating, fishing, golf, and his cigars. He especially enjoyed supporting his grandsons with their athletics and attending their games. 

In addition to his wife, David is survived by four children: Michael Archibald and husband, Jason Dionne of Portland, Maine, Jill Archibald of Cranston, R.I., Janice Archibald of Ellington, and Brian Archibald and wife, Kathleen of Bristol; a brother: Jack Archibald and wife, Kathy of Rochester, N.Y.; his two adored grandsons: Lance and Lincoln Archibald; sister-in-law: Kim Cassella of Hamilton, Mass.; several beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law: Suzanne Pearl and Edward Stanton.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Saturday, Aug. 20, between 1 and 3 p.m. followed by a prayer service and military honors at 3 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bristol Central All Sports Booster Club in the name of David Archibald, 480 Wolcott St., Bristol, CT 06010.
