Seymour knocks St. Paul out of NVL Girls Basketball Tournament in semi-final thriller

The Seymour girls basketball team was down by 5 midway through the 4th quarter, but went on a 9-0 run to overtake St. Paul by a 55-52 final score in a seesaw battle in the NVL Tournament semi-final Tuesday night at Naugatuck High School.

St. Paul had a chance to tie on the final possession of the game, but missed a 3 point attempt at the buzzer.

Kenzie Sirowich went off for 29 points to lead Seymour into a finals match-up with Holy Cross of Waterbury. She was supported by 12 points from Lauren Golebieski, who hit a huge 3 pointer in the big 9-0 rally.

The Falcons had a balanced attack in the hotly contested game, with Nadia Reimer and Zoey Rubins scoring 11 apiece, Izzy Leggett contributing 10 and Audrey Tice 9. Rubins orchestrated the St. Paul attack with 7 assists, while Reimer anchored the Falcon defense with 5 blocks.

St. Paul was the #3 seed in the tournament. The Falcons now have a record of 16-5.

Seymour (seeded #2) is now 19-3, and will face Holy Cross in the final Thursday night at Kennedy High in Waterbury.
