Mary F. Santorso, 93

Mary F. Santorso, 93 of Forestville, passed away on Monday, Dec. 18. She was born on July 8, 1930, in Bristol, daughter of the late Dominic and Mary (Catucci) Fortunato.

Mary was the loving wife of the late William Santorso for 22 years before his passing in 1973. She was the owner with her late husband of Silo Restaurant for 50 years and later was the hostess at 150 Central for 11 years where she worked for her son Gary.

Becoming a widow at such a young age, she was not only our mother, but she was our father, and boss. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed preparing a meal for her family, our Saturday lunches. She enjoyed baking and sharing her baked goods with her customers and friends. It wasn’t unusual for her to bake over 175 loaves of pumpkin bread during the holidays to share.

Mary is survived by her daughters Susan Jones and her husband Stephen of Farmington, Lee Santorso of Forestville; grandchildren Kendra Lansdale and her husband Chuck of Plantsville, Todd Jones and his Wife Dr. Whitney Young of Farmington; great-grandchildren Michaela Lansdale, Molly Jones, Emma Jones; grand-bird Harley; sister Irene Deming of FL; sister-in-law Sharon Fortunato and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, Mary is predeceased by her son Gary Santorso, brother John Fortunato and son-in-law John Tavera.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the John E. Tavera memorial scholarship, PO Box 1262 Bristol CT 06011-1262.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Dec. 22, directly at St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave, Bristol at 10 am. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
