The Bristol Central wrestling program is off and running in 2022-23

By Michael Letendre

The Bristol Central wrestling program, under the watchful eye of veteran head coach Matt Boissonneault, has already had an eventual start to the 2022-23 campaign.

The squad has been putting the time on the mats and has paid off with immediate dividends in and around Central Connecticut Conference action.

It all started on December 14 when the Rams battled Enfield in a CCC Interdivisional showdown from the Charles C. Marsh Gymnasium.

Central came away from that meet with a huge 58-24 win and then took seventh place at the Guilford Invite three days later.

Central’s Landon Dionne (145 pounds) won his division while Kaden Dragon (113 pounds) took third place.

Making fourth place showings were Johnny Rios (195), Julian Colon (126 pounds) and Lincoln Archibald (160).

From there, it was a big bout against Berlin.

And the Redcoats just nipped Central by a 40-39 in Bristol back on December 21 – the first of several CCC South encounters this season.

Engher Disla Almonte (106), Dragon, Dionne, Archibald, Colon, Rios and Andrew Sarkis (285) all racked up wins for the Rams.

And this past Thursday, Central picked off five squads in a competitive affair from Avon High School.

The Rams turned away Canton (69-21), Foran (49-21), Haddam-Killingworth (42-36), Conard (54-23) and earned a one-point triumph over home-standing Avon (40-39) – moving to 6-1 overall.

Against Foran, Disla Almonte (106 pounds, default win), Dragon (113, 8-2 decision), Joseph Nick (126, 5-4 decision), Dionne (138, 11-0 major decision), Archibald (152, 3:26), Derek Sedlak (160, pin 5:36), Jack Jones (170, 6-4 decision), Jomar Lopez (195, pin 57 seconds), Rios (220, pin 1:20), and Sarkis (285, pin 1:03) all came away winners against the non-conference opponent.

With the conclusion of the 2022 portion of the campaign, Central is looking forward to getting back to the CCC South grind.

The Rams are back in action this coming Wednesday in Plainville from the Kegel Gymnasium.

Meet time is 6 p.m.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access eight (8) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access eight (8) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
